Last night we watched a President trying to sell the public
his escalation plan for Iraq, his new energy policy and his plea for
comprehensive immigration reform to provide Amnesty to the million of leaches
on our society, I sat and remembered my grade school days when it was explained
the theory of our government and the respect I had for the position of
president. In my minds eye I thought here was that special person working for
the people that elected him to keep this country strong and represent the
interests on the citizens.
Relieved hearing the President was giving his speech in English I watched the audience noticing the expressions of the
Senators and Representatives and wondered what was running through their minds.
The cameras keyed on the presidential hopefuls and I surmised that their
campaigns were foremost in their thoughts and how they were going to respond to
the press. The party partisans where either praising or developing ridicule to
counter the statements of the President and the guests were there to witness
and give the gratuitous applause at the appropriate time. What was missing on
my part was the respect for the individual giving the speech.
I remembered the attempts, past and present, to sell this
country to foreign companies. I remembered the lies and deception concerning
the reasons for invading Iraq
and now the continuation of this war. I remembered the stubborn allegiance to
Rumsfeld that cost the change of leadership in congress. I contemplated the
public’s opinion of this president as he made this speech and the talking heads
critiquing every word in the after analysis. I thought of the instances where
the President ignored the laws or cherry picked the ones he wanted to use. I
thought that the public has earned the right to question the credibility of
this President.
I thought again to my youth’s perceptions of the office and
the individual and realized how different the reality is of the child is in
respect to the adult. Here I now have almost an utter contempt for President
Bush in comparison to the super hero status of the office in my youth and
wondered why I felt this way about this man. I then remembered the phrase from
the Smith Barney commercial where they say, “they earn it!” Close to 70% of my
fellow Americans are disgusted with the actions of this President and I imagine
there is the same proportion that abhors the thought of Amnesty.
There are many studies and reports that discredit the plans
for comprehensive immigration but I know of none that provide the facts and
figures where it is beneficial let alone fiscally responsible. As I’ve written
many times before, “where is the data that justifies the need for Comprehensive
Immigration Reform?” The simple questions of : Who needs the illegal immigrant,
Why do they need immigrant Labor, How many are here; working; requested via
government programs, and Where are these immigrants have never been answered. They
estimate the total illegal alien population because they have no figures but
are willing to set a blanket escalating quota to admit that many more to this
nation. This is not in the best interest of this nation and therefore not in the
best interest of the citizens of this nation.
I’ll keep plugging away in Blogs, writing to my congressional
leaders and hope you will also. Remember, apathy got this man elected and
apathy will let the special interests this man represents be our legacy we
leave for our children and grand children.
Check out Hillary’s politically correct penny!
